Look Ma! I'm certifiable!


As of this past Friday, I'm now a Certified (by BICSI and FOA) Fiber-Optic Technician. A week-long course in Miserysaga.

Here - look at my splice, but be careful - it's single-mode!
My Fusion Splice: 0.20dB Loss
(It's inside a Q Pack for protection.)


I can now perform fusion and mechanical splices, connectorize cables, clean, strip and prepare a cable, measure losses and all that fun stuff.

An SC to ST patch

Now to get a fusion splicer... not like I have anything better to do with $12000...

That is SERIOUSLY cool. Fusion splicing sounds a bit like welding fibers. I'm fascinated with optical networking but I don't get much exposure to it in my current job. I am so jealous. :-)
