g'day eh, I've also got the kd-r800 and an iphone. I've definitely seen the issue your talking about. Personally I wouldn't want the a2dp disabled because I use it if I'm in the car for a short trip and just want to listen to a podcast quick. What I do is have the bluetooth dongle in the back, a retractable iphone cable in the front and when the audio stops I just unplug and plug-in the iphone cable from the radio. that kicks the radio back to USB and everything starts playing again. More than should be necessary but it's a quick thing I can live with.
FYI I also found a firmware update for the radio, applied it with no issues. Check the JVC US website.
